Shakuhachi

Under the bamboo name Kō Yūsui (黄幽水), Vincent W.J. van Gerven Oei is a student of Meian Taizan-ha(明暗対山派) shakuhachi under Bill Shinsui (心水) Schultz and an active practitioner. He is a member of the Myōan Kyōkai (明暗教会) in Kyoto, Japan and currently working toward fulfilling the requirements to become an officially licensed teacher of the repertoire.

In light of furthering the knowledge of Meian Taizan-ha shakuhachi in the English-speaking world, he is preparing a complete translation of the Tomimori Kyozan’s (富森虚山) study A Commentary on Meian Shakuhachi (明暗尺八通解) (Tokyo, 1979). He writes about his shakuhachi practice on Incomplete Transmissions.
