Center for Interspecies Meaning-Making
Psychedelic Therapy
Through the Center for Interspecies Meaning-Making I offer therapeutical accompaniment for psychedelic experiences: preparation, the session itself, and the integration work that follows.
The premise of the Center is in its name: the psychedelic experience is a deeply collaborative encounter between ostensibly different life-forms – humans and fungi – two species with their own histories, chemistries, and ways of being and dispersing in the world. Meaning is created in that encounter between both.
My work is to create the conditions for that encounter to occur and to hold space for what is born from it.
Approach
I have more twenty years of experience in guiding other humans through their journeys with psychoactive substances, but my most sustained collaboration has been with fungi. This experience is further informed by my extensive training in continental philosophy (PhD, European Graduate School; PhD, University of Aberdeen), group-analytic psychotherapy (Associate Member, Institute of Group Analysis), and the Zen Buddhist practice of shakuhachi.
The arc of the work
- Preparation
- Several conversations to clarify intention, history, and expectations, and to establish whether this work is appropriate at all.
- Session
- A full day in person, with continuous presence throughout.
- Integration
- Follow-up conversations over the weeks that follow, for as long as they remain useful.
Suitability and limits
Psychedelic therapy may not be legal in every jurisdiction and not appropriate for everyone. It is not a substitute for ongoing psychological or medical care. Certain conditions and medications may conflict with this type of work. Whether it is right for you is something we determine together, in conversation, before anything else is arranged.
